The Dragoons are a mechanized combat brigade,
fielding a maximum of over a thousand combat vehicles. They use primarily
powerguns for vehicle defence and main weaponry, plus 5cm powerguns in the
anti-armour role. Artillery support is provided by the Pulpit
MLRS. Primary AFV is the Covenanter III ACV tank. Manufactured by components from two manufacturers, this has a one piece, cast aluminium hull which has had an inner framework or 'cage' of closely spaced beryllium rods fitted in side of it. This then has a composite (reinforced with a matrix of chopped mono-filament) poured inside to form a solid, one piece hull. This system, whilst being strong for the weight, is vary hard to maintain in the event of combat damage and is not popular with repair crews. The Covenanter is equipped with an aluminium and ceramic turret in which is mounted a 10cm powergun. This is not as powerful as the larger 15cm and 20cm weapons but is one of the most powerful for a vehicle of this size. Quick and well armoured, the Covenanter's secondary weapon is a tri-barrel powergun, with an anti buzz-bomb point defence system and has an effective suite of AI electronics. Lacking the additional missile systems of tanks of its class (like the Panther II) the Covenanter swaps this offensive option for armour and a more effective main weapon and represents a good attack tank. Fans are ducted, armoured and hidden and the Beryllium re-enforced plastic skirt is easy to maintain. |
